Dear Fairbanks Families,

Happy July! For some people, it is way too early to begin thinking about school while others are already picking out first day clothes. Wherever you are on the sliding scale, our schools want your family to have the tools to plan for the start of the 2023-2024 school year. Here are some helpful resources and reminders as the start of the school year approaches.

Back to School Headquarters

Our district’s Back to School Headquarters provides important information as you prepare for the upcoming school year. Please click on the link below for information about the 2023-24 school year: Back to School Headquarters

Food Services Changes

Our food services team is excited to see our students back over the coming weeks. The food service department’s primary goal is to provide students with healthy and nutritious meals providing them with the fuel to be ready to learn. Please look at the information below for the 2023-2024 school year.

If your student has qualified for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program in the past, or your situation has changed and you believe you may now qualify, you are highly encouraged to complete the Free/Reduced Lunch application at the beginning of the school year and return it to the building office. The 2023-2024 application will be available in July. The Free/Reduced Lunch program provides many supportive benefits beyond free or reduced meals, including reducing school fees and assisting with college application fees.

The prices for breakfasts and lunches for the 2023-2024  school year are as follows:

Breakfast, all buildings $2.00

Elementary School $3.00

Middle School $3.25

High School $3.25

Milk $0.65

Additionally, we will welcome new faces in the Food Services department next school year. Please look for announcements welcoming new staff when we return to school. We will also be piloting new, kid-friendly recipes and are excited to hear what our students’ think.

Transportation Routes

The transportation department doesn’t stop when school ends. As with other departments, our Transportation Department uses the summer months to plan for the coming year. We will be making minor adjustments to create efficiencies in our routes.  If your student is impacted by these changes, you will receive individual communication within the first week of August.

Parents of newly enrolled and kindergarten students can expect communication from your student’s bus driver in early August.  New students in grades 1 - 12 will receive communication the week of August 7th-11th and students in preschool and kindergarten will receive communications the week of August 14th - 18th.  If your student rode the bus last year and there are no changes you will not receive communication.

Home addresses will be used for bus assignments.  If your resident student goes to an in-home childcare provider within the Fairbanks district and is requiring transportation to the child care provider's home, please contact the Transportation Department directly.  Accommodations will be considered on a first come, first serve basis depending on available seats on the requested bus.

Please note that we are not able to provide transportation on a bus other than your student’s assigned bus except in cases of emergency.

Feel free to contact Transportation Coordinator, Beth Wyckoff, thru email, bwyckoff@fairbankspanthers.org or phone, 937-349-9000, ext 1230 if  you have any questions.

We appreciate your attention to these items heading into the school year. We will post this on our website and send additional reminders closer to the start of the school year. If you have questions, please reach out to our district or building offices. Have a great day!!
