TERESA GOINS, CURRICULUM DIRECTOR
TEACHING & LEARNING
Dear Fairbanks Families,
For the 2020-2021 school year, Fairbanks Local will not be requiring our teaching staff to take gifted professional development. This school year is bringing many additional responsibilities and challenges. We want to alleviate the requirement of additional gifted PD hours in order for our staff to focus on the students safety, wellbeing and educational growth.
Many of our staff have completed 15 hours of gifted professional development for the last two years so we have full faith in their ability to provide differentiated and appropriate instruction for our gifted students. We know that those good instructional practices will continue this school year. However, without completing the additional hours, the Ohio Department of Education will not recognize us as officially “servicing” our gifted population. Therefore, if there is a state report card for the current school year, we will not meet any gifted indicators.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Also thank you to our wonderful staff for always keeping the needs of every individual student at the forefront of their planning and instruction.
At Fairbanks Local Schools we strive to develop the habits and skills necessary for lifelong learning. We empower our learners, challenge them to be innovative, and provide relevant opportunities for them to practice the skills necessary for an ever-changing future. Fairbanks staff members embrace professional learning and collaboration. We are engaged in continued discussion of the following questions as part of our work to increase student achievement:
What do we want students to know, understand, and be able to do in each course or curricular area?
How do we best assess student learning and use data to personalize learning for each of our students.
How can the use of technology enhance our instruction in the classroom and assist with meeting each student's individual needs?
To meet the needs of all learners, we have implemented blended learning which is the combination of high quality face to face instruction and meaningful technology usage. If you would like to learn more about blended and personalized learning, please check out our Frequently Asked Questions page. To continue aligning our work within the district, Fairbanks Local Schools, along with the state of Ohio, has adopted the Future Ready framework which is a strategic planning tool intended to guide schools as they shift toward blended and personalized learning.
