Financially the last couple of years have been difficult for many people. Our district is no exception. We have worked very hard to make sure that the public's dollars are spent wisely while maintaining the high standards of education that our community demands. I believe we have done that. This past school year we received the highest ranking possible from the state of Ohio, an "Excellent with Distinction" rating. This would not have been possible without the fantastic staff, students and parents that we have here at Fairbanks. This financial crisis is far from over. Our revenues have been cut by the state every year (severely the last 2) for the last 5 years yet our test scores have gone up almost every year. So far we have not had to cut any opportunities for students.

There is a bill in the state congress (HB136) that will devastate public schools as we know it. The bill wants to take public tax dollars from school districts and give it to parents who want to send their child to private schools including students that are already attending private schools regardless of the school rating. For our district the state would take away approximately $1.2 million dollars and would be before a single new student left our district for private school. The latest talk is that the bill may be amended. This is one of those bills that no amount of amendments will make it work. I ask you to please contact Representative Dorothy Pelanda (who currently is against the bill) at (614) 466-8147 and Senator Dave Burke at (614) 466-8049 and tell them this bill cannot pass in any form!

We have a great district and without the support of you it couldn't happen. Thank you for your continued support!

Go Panthers!
