Welcome to the Gifted Services blog. Fairbanks has many students who have been identified as gifted. Some of these students receive special services from the gifted intervention specialist at the elementary school. For other students, regular classroom teachers strive to provide appropriate instruction to meet their needs.
My job, as the district gifted coordinator, is to identify students who are gifted and to communicate with classroom teachers about those students and how their learning needs may be a bit different from other students in their classrooms. In addition, I want to do everything I can to communicate with parents about opportunities that may be available to their children who have been identified as gifted.
In the short time I've been working for Fairbanks, I've had a number of communications about opportunities available for gifted students. I want to use this blog as a way of communicating with parents and students about these opportunities. In addition, I will be posting some general information about gifted students on the wiki.
