On Saturday October 2nd, three members of the Fairbanks FFA participated in the State Forestry Career Development Event or CDE. The contest was held at Hocking College in Nelsonville. The students had to identify a variety of trees, complete a 50 question test, identify 15 different items of forestry equipment, timber cruizing by taking the diameter of the tree and figuring the Diameter at Breast Height, and determine the amount of 16 foot boards the tree would produce. The Timber Stand Improvement was the practicum for this year, where students decided which trees to cull from the forest. Members that represented the FFA: Kevin Lynch, Trystan Edwards, and Susan Higginbotham. The team placed 32nd in the state with 189 students competing.
