    State of the School Meeting

    Dear Community Member,

As a member of The Fairbanks School District Community, The Board of Education extends an invitation to you to attend a “State of the School District” Meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to present vital information about Fairbanks and to get your input on some key decisions that may need to be made regarding the operation of the school. We have had a strong tradition of academic and athletic excellence and we want to continue that into the 21st century. Unfunded state mandates, state funding cuts, increased fuel prices, and inflation is forcing the Board of Education to place a renewal of an Emergency Levy with an increase on the November ballot. The new levy is needed to maintain our current programs at the level expected by the community.

Fairbanks has a history of operating the district effectively and efficiently. Our last additional levy was in 2004. The board has researched many options and feels the renewal of the emergency levy with a small increase is the most effective solution.

You are a vital link to the success of the children in our schools. We sincerely hope you will be able to join us for this important “State of the School District” meeting. Please ask a friend or neighbor to come as well.
